Sterling Hwy. MP 45-60 Public Meeting Scheduled For Tuesday Night In Cooper Landing

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities has scheduled an open house for Tuesday, August 24 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Cooper Landing Community Hall. The meeting will provide an update on the project’s overall schedule and design progress. The project team will be available to answer questions and share updates via posters. Weather permitting, the meeting will be held outdoors.

Shannon McCarthy, Public Information Officer at the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities:

We basically have this public meeting available both online and in person to just bring people up to speed to where the project is at. These is a very large project. It’s multiple year. It’s really good to get people updated on what we’re doing now and what the next steps are. As you know, we have one project already in construction. This is a really important part of our development process because we know that people on the ground have really good knowledge about what’s happening on that highway, how they use it and they can give us lots of feedback as we develop our plan.”

If you are unable to attend, there’s also the Online Open House:

It’s really similar. As you know, it’s not always easy for people to get into a public meeting, not just because of COVID but because people’s lives are busy. Sometimes it’s a little too far for them to travel on the date that we’ve set. This gives people that time to review the project at their leisure, whatever time they have available, and they can email us with questions, concerns or comments. Sometimes people like to use it as a prep for the meetings so they’re more familiar with where we’re at.”

McCarthy said that the feedback she’s received has been mostly positive:

Glad to see this project is finally under construction. Questions about how it’s going to impact their lives once they get into construction to all sorts of things. People along the corridor have, of course questions about how it would impact their driveways and their properties. Things like that.”

Mark on your calendars, the Sterling Highway Safety Corridor MP 82.5 – 94 Project Team will host a public hearing and virtual public meeting to provide an update on the project on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Soldotna Public Library.
