Peninsula Runners Double-Up On Invitational Races

Two invitational cross country running events, one in Anchorage and one in Palmer, featured runners from the Central Peninsula with only four weeks remaining in the running season.

 

ACS 3K Class Challenge

The ACS 3K Class Challenge held on Friday at Cheney Lake in Anchorage featured freshman-sophomore and junior-senior races in the girls and boys divisions.

Grace Christian posted the top freshmen-sophomore girls race total with 40 points; Homer was second with 42 and Soldotna was fourth with 71.

The Kodiak bops won the freshmen-sophomore race with 32 points; Kenai finished second with 62 and Soldotna was fourth with 100.

Top Individual Finishers by Class

Girls Freshman-Sophomore

Grace’s Kai Waythomas won at 12:11; Seward’s Hailey Ingalls was third at 12:33, Homer’s Frida Renner was seventh at 12:49, Kenai’s Emilee Wilson was eighth at 13:01 and Homer’s Elena Badajos was 10th at 13:07.

Boys Freshman-Sophomore

Kenai’s Gregory Fallon topped the boys field at 10:19 for the victory.  Kenai’s Jack Laker placed fourth in 10:24; Soldotna’s Levi Mickelson placed 11th at 11:08.

Girls Junior-Senior

Kenai’s Jayna Boonstra posted the top time at 11:59; Soldotna’s Jordan Strausbaugh was third at 12:20; Kenai’s Leah Fallon finished fifth at 12:40 and Summer Foster placed ninth at 13:21.

Boys Junior-Senior

Homer’s Seamus McDonough placed sixth at 10:26 to top peninsula finishers.   Kenai’s Joe Hamilton was 12th at 11:05; SoHi’s Jonathan Gordon finished 14th at 11:08.

 

George Plumley Invitational @ Palmer

Claiming the title as the largest invitational cross country meet of the season, the George Plumley Invitational featured over 1,000 runners.  The race day included Men’s and Women’s Open , Men’s and Women’s JV and Men’s and Women’s Varsity races, including 180 finishers in the varsity Men’s race alone.

 

The Juneau girls, Division I, and Grace boys, Division II, raced to team titles.  The South Anchorage girls and West Anchorage boys finished as meet runner-up in the team scoring.

Chugiak’s Cambell Peterson won the girls varsity race and West Valley’s Daniel Abromowicz won the varsity boys race.

 

Top Peninsula Finishers included:

Girls Varsity

Kenai’s Jayna Boonstra led the Peninsula in the varsity girls race finishing in 15th-place at 20:25. Kenai’s Emilee Wilson placed 38th 21:32 and Leah Fallon finished 39th in 21:33.  Soldotna’s Jordan Strausbaugh placed 26th in 20:56.

Boys Varsity

Kenai’s Gregory Fallon and Jack Laker finished 24th and 25th posting the top times for peninsula runners.
