Alaska Reports 1,473 New COVID-19 Cases, One New Death, 210 Hospitalizations

Alaska is dealing with over 14-hundred new coronavirus cases.  The state Department of Health and Social Services reported 1,473 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday from Friday through Sunday, including 1,431 resident and 42 nonresident cases. The department also reported one new COVID-19 death and 210 new hospitalizations for the virus.

 

Across the Kenai Peninsula, Kenai reports 20 cases, Soldotna 20, Seward 12, Kenai Peninsula Borough North 9, Homer 6, Kenai Peninsula Borough South 2, Nikiski 2, and Sterling 2. Of the 42 nonresident cases, 1 was reported in Seward.

 

There have been a total of 2,135 resident hospitalizations and 445 deaths. Over the past three days, there were seven new resident hospitalizations and one recent Alaska resident death reported. The individual who died was an Anchorage male resident 80 years or older.

 

 

There are currently 210 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who are hospitalized and 10 additional patients who are considered persons under investigation (PUI) for a total of 220 current COVID-related hospitalizations. Thirty-three of these patients are on ventilators. The percentage of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 18.3%.

 

The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 567.6. For boroughs and census areas: 25 areas are at the high alert level.

 

61.8% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have received at least their first vaccine dose. 56.5% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 47.7% of the Kenai Peninsula are considered fully vaccinated.
