Alaska Reports 1,053 COVID-19 Cases On Thursday; Second 1,000-Plus Case Day

Alaska is reporting over 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 for the second day in a row.  The state Department of Health and Social Services reported 1,053 new cases yesterday.  This marks the second-highest single-day case count ever recorded in Alaska, following Wednesday’s 1,095 new cases.

 

In the Thursday data release, there were 1,027 resident cases including 27 cases in Kenai, 17 in Soldotna, 6 in Homer, 6 in Seward, 5 in Anchor Point, 4 in Kenai Peninsula Borough North, 4 in Nikiski, and 3 in Sterling. There were also 26 new nonresident cases reported in Alaska.

 

There have been a total of 2,183 resident hospitalizations and 453 deaths. Yesterday there were 11 new resident hospitalizations and no new Alaska resident deaths reported. There are currently 206 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who are hospitalized and nine additional patients who are considered persons under investigation (PUI) for a total of 215 current COVID-related hospitalizations. 34 of these patients are on ventilators.

 

 

The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 666.8.  For boroughs and census areas: 24 areas are at the high alert level, including the Kenai Peninsula Borough.

 

62.2% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have received at least their first vaccine dose. 56.8% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 48% of the Kenai Peninsula Region are fully vaccinated.
