An Alaska 511 alert indicates that officers are on the scene of a multi vehicle collision on the Seward Highway around Mile 80 (20 Mile River Bridge) in Portage. The officers are reporting very icy road conditions and have closed the Northbound and Southbound lanes.
Further, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities posted on AK511 that travelers should use caution in the area of milepoint 60 – 75 of the Seward HIghway due to icy conditions.
The National Weather Service in Anchorage, at 9:18AM, reported that there are slick conditions through Turnagain Pass and the Portage Valley this morning. They explained that below freezing temperatures have caused very slick conditions to develop along the Seward Highway through Turnagain Pass and Portage Valley this morning.
Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling through this area, especiallyi on bridges and overpasses. Warming temperatures this afternoon will cause conditions to improve.
There is no word on when the Seward Highway, as a result of the multivehicle collision, will reopen. Also, there’s no additional information regarding the multi vehicle collision at this time.
