Kenai’s Jayna Boonstra raced to the 2021 ASAA Division II State Cross Country Running Championship in the girls division at the 2021 state meet on the Bartlett High School Trails on Saturday in Anchorage.
Division II Girls
Jayna Boonstra topped the field in the Division II girls race for a second-consecutive state cross country running championship. Boonstra ran away from the pack to complete the 5-kilometer Bartlett course in 19:47, ahead of second-place finisher Anna Purssian of Sitka in 20:10.5.
The Kenai Kardinal girls placed six runners in the top-30, including: Leah Fallon, 11th; Emilee Wilson, 14th; Summer Foster, 21st; Gabrielle News, 28th and Emily Moss, 30th.
The Homer Mariner girls were lead by Eryn Field in 7th place and the Seward Seahawks top finisher was Hailey Ingalls in 5th overall.
Grace Christian School placed four runners in the top-10.
Division II Boys
The Grace Christian boys ran-away with the Division II boys team championship with seven runners in the top-13 and four runners in the top-five.
David Sliwinski of Grace Christian School topped the DII boys with a time of 16:44.9.
Greg Fallon a group of five Kenai Kardinal boys finishing in the top-30 of the Division II boys competition. Fallon recorded a time of 17:07.7 good for 6th place overall.
Other Kenai boys in the top-30, included: Jack Laker, 14th; Joe Hamilton, 16th; Armands Veksejs, 23rd; Tyler Hippchin, 26th
Homer’s Seamus McDonough placed ninth in the DII race.
Division I Girls
The Soldotna Stars were lead by Jordan Ruffner in 17th overall and Jordan Strausbaugh in 38th.
Robyn Miller from South Anchorage posted the fastest DI girls time at 16:00.
Division I Boys
West Valley’s David Abramowicz (16:12) out-raced Dimond’s Jared Gardiner (16:29.9) for the boys Division I individual title.
Division III Girls & Boys
Ariel Godinez-Long from Haines recorded the fastest girls Division III time in 20:31.1. Uriah Lucas of Petersburg won the DIII boys race in 17:38.7.
