The Luke Spruill Memorial Tournament is named for Luke Spruill, a two-time state champion Kenai Central who died in a Bristol Bay fishing accident in 2004 at the age of 27.

The tournament each year selects an athlete for the Luke Spruill Award.  The award is presented to a wrestler who exhibits dedication, good sportsmanship, ability to help and coach others, a can-do attitude, coachability, kindness, leadership and tenacity.  Nominees are selected by the coaches at the tournament.
