The Kenai City Council met Wednesday night and the first orders of business involved the oath of office for newly elected council members Deborah Sounart and James Baisden, both of which were recently elected to three-year terms on the council. Kenai Mayor Brian Gabriel delivered the oath of office for both members individually before the crowd in attendance congratulated them in applause for winning the election.

Next up was the election of vice mayor. Council member Glenese Pettey said:

I would like to nominate Henry Knackstedt as vice mayor for his expertise, his longevity and his contribution to the great city of Kenai.”

Council member Teea Winger said:

I would like to nominate council member Jim Glendening. He has served us diligently. He offers great community service with our constituents. He’s been a great advocate in many different aspects for our city. He goes to events where he gets the ear of the governor and the senator. I think he would do well representing us.”

The final vote showed Glendening receiving 4 four votes to Knackstedt receiving 3. Mayor Brian Gabriel congratulated Glendening on becoming the new Vice Mayor before council heard scheduled public comments.
