Soldotna Suspends Restrictions On Council Attendance By Teleconference Through June 2022

The Soldotna City Council passed an ordinance that would suspend restrictions on council attendance by teleconference as established in Soldotna Municipal Code through June 30, 2022. In March 2020, Substitute Emergency Ordinance 2020-008, in part, established provisions which suspended the restrictions on Council attendance by teleconference.

As of April 2021, provisions were codified which suspended the restriction on council attendance by teleconference when an emergency disaster declaration is in effect. In May 2021, the emergency disaster declaration for the city was repealed.

Vice Mayor Lisa Parker told council:

What this would do – we don’t currently have an emergency declaration in Soldotna, however, as you can tell, if you look at the Borough’s website tracking of COVID throughout the Kenai Peninsula, we are still at very high risk. Since we’ve suspended restrictions for attending by teleconference, I thought it would be prudent to extend this ordinance through June 30, 2022, which would allow council and members of the public who are experiencing any symptoms to join the meeting remotely. That is why I’m introducing this ordinance.”

Members of the public interested in attending the Soldotna City Council meetings can do so with a link through their website or are encouraged to participate Zoom.
