Soldotna Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover crash near mile post 115 of the Sterling Highway on Tuesday evening at about 6:50 p.m., according to the online trooper dispatch.

An investigation found 82-year-old Eugene Darby of Kenai was heading northbound on the Sterling Highway and upon entering the ‘S’ curve at mile 115, his 2004 Ford F250 lost traction and slid across the highway and into the southbound ditch where the vehicle overturned.

During the investigation, Troopers, through a Nixle alert, alerted the public about intermittent delays due to the emergency responders working in the area Tuesday night.

While authorities were en route to the crash location, an individual stopped and performed CPR. Darby was transported to Central Peninsula Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

No alcohol or drugs are suspected.
