Several graduates of the West Point military academy are calling on Wasilla Rep. David Eastman to resign. The open letter that was published in the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman calls on the representative to resign after Eastman was identified as being a member of the Oath Keepers in an October 2021 BuzzFeed news article. The Oath Keepers are recognized as a far-right antigovernmental militia organization composed of present and former law enforcement officials and military veterans as members.
Eastman addressed claims of disloyalty to the U.S. government to host Bob Bird on KSRM’s ‘The Bird’s Eye View’:
“It really is a religious sentiment and what it comes down to is if you do not have faith in the current administration, if you still harbor doubt about their honesty, for example, and your loyalty instead of to Biden is to Trump or something like that, that makes you an enemy of the state. So now we have the FBI going after any number of folks in this state. They went after folks. They were confiscating copies of the constitution, declaration of independence because these are loyalties that might not line up with the Biden Administration, and they don’t honestly, and so by not having faith and by expressing doubts, especially if you do so publicly, you are not one of us and so you’ve got 70 woke West Point grads telling me I’m not one of them and I’m glad to admit that I definitely am not one of them.”
Eastman said that he’s not changing positions:
“I am certainly on a very long list of people that they would like to go after, but I’ll tell you, again, it’s not West Point. I received a message after the news story from another West Point grad who said exactly kind of what you’re saying, these guys are confusing the current administration with the constitution and those are not the same thing. Stay the course. I certainly will not be stepping back from the oath that I took anytime soon.”
Eastman said that the RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) and the woke graduates of West Point don’t have the best interests of his constituents in the Mat-Su at heart.
