Families who participate in the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation’s Housing Choice Voucher program may be eligible for security deposit assistance, which is funded by CARES Act funds, according to a recent press release. The funds must be processed by AHFC no later than December 31, 2021, as CARES Act funds for security deposit assistance will not be available after that date.
Security Deposit Assistance provides funding to those eligible to prevent homelessness or to assist in transitional housing to secure permanent rental housing. They are to be used in emergency situations as funding is not extensive. Security Deposit Assistance also may be used to aid low-income families secure a more affordable rental housing unit.
If your family is income eligible for a Housing Choice Voucher, AHFC says you’re automatically eligible for security deposit assistance. Participants who are eligible and want to use this resource are told to submit their landlord paperwork to their local AHFC office in Homer or Soldotna by December 23, 2021.
