Blowing Snow And Periods Of Moderate Snow For The Seward Highway

Motorists traveling through Portage Valley and into Whittier should expect moderate snow Thursday afternoon and evening. According to the National Weather Service, a developing front will push into Prince William Sound as we head through the day.

Along with steady snow, this system will bring some gusty easterly winds with it. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Initially the snow will start out light and fluffy before transitioning to a wetter consistency.

Thus, the snow will be easily transported by the winds and other vehicles. Visibility as low as one half mile will be possible at times. Snow amounts will generally range from 3 to 7 inches, with the highest amounts closer to Whittier. The period of worst conditions looks to be from around 1pm to about 7pm.
