The Nikiski Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on Rozella Drive at 4:29 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15th. An engine, tanker and chief responded out of Nikiski Fire Station 2. An additional two tankers, medic and chief responded from Nikiski Fire Station 1 and Station 3 and ten Nikiski Fire Department firefighters initially responded to the call.
An active fire was found near the water heater and was quickly extinguished.
The unidentified children called 911 and went to a safe place until fire units arrived on the scene. Quick recognition and a fast call saved the structure.
Nikiski Fire Department wants to remind the public to be careful when trying to thaw out pipes or when using extra heaters this time of year. Make sure they are not close to anything flammable and that they are stable. Monitor them on a regular basis.
