Joe Floyd Tournament Opens with Nikiski Boys and SoHi Girls Winning Big

The Nikiski Bulldogs and Soldotna Stars opened play in the three-day Joe Floyd Christmas Tournament in Kodiak with first-round games on Monday, December 27.

Tournament brackets have been revised and game schedules changed for Tuesday’s second round.

 

Joe Floyd Christmas Tournament

The Joe Floyd Christmas Tournament features a three-day, bracketed tournament with teams from Nikiski, SoHi, North Pole, Bethel and the host Kodiak Bears.

Tournament Highlights

The Nikiski Bulldog boys opened the Joe Floyd Christmas Tournament with a rare, pair of victories having to “play two” due to the tournament schedule.  Nikiski won both to advance to the tournament’s winner’s-bracket game on Tuesday, December 28th.

The SoHi girls dominated Kodiak to record a first-round victory and record a Northern Lights Conference victory against the Bears.

 

First-Round Tournament Game Results

Nikiski Boys 52 – Bethel 37  Bulldogs open with tournament win and advance to a second game on Monday.

Nikiski Boys 60 – North Pole 45   Brady Bostic leads the Bulldogs with 20 points.  Nikiski pulled-away in the second half after the game was a two-point difference in the first half.

Nikiski Girls 13 – North Pole 45  Bulldog girls manage only three field goals.

SoHi Girls 45 – Kodiak 28  Rhys Cannava lead the Stars with 18 points and Tanner Inman scored 12 points in Stars victory over Kodiak.  SoHi lead 25-8 at the half and 38-16 after three quarters.

SoHi Boys 44 – Kodiak 62  Kodiak opened a 16-4 lead in the first quarter on the strength of 4 of 5 three-point shooting.  the Stars closed to with six points in the fourth quarter before Kodiak closed with an 11-2 run for the 18-point victory.  Maleda Denbrock and Ethan Sewell each scored 10 points for the Stars.
