Kenai Chamber Of Commerce Executive Director Steps Down

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center Board of Directors have announced that Brittany Brown, Executive Director, will resign after a year and a half of service with the Chamber to pursue a new opportunity in community development and public relations in rural Alaska. The Chamber of Commerce Board will immediately commence a search to identify a successor for Brown, who has agreed to continue serving until a replacement is appointed, at which time she will work with the Board to ensure an orderly transition.

Brown told KSRM:

It wasn’t an easy decision. My time at the Chamber has been a wonderful experience. Getting to work with the board and staff there and all of our members in the community, it has just been such a wonderful experience. Being able to transition here, you know, I came from Anchorage. I was originally from Nome. Going from Anchorage to a smaller community, it just felt like home to me. I’m still going to be living here on the Peninsula, but I took a role with my Native Corporation. It’s the Village Corporation of Nome. The work focuses on community development and public relations in rural Alaska and moreso kind of in the Bearing Strait region. A lot of that, with the passion from where my family came from and a lot of the work there. I took on an executive role within the corporation there.”

Brown said that she will continue serving the Chamber until a replacement is appointed. She was asked of the possibility of her last day:

That’s undecided just cause it depends on how quickly we can get somebody within the role. We’re going to be starting as soon as possible. The position will be open to receive applications and we’re going to go through the application process, I believe it’s going to be posted for about two weeks. We’re going to check out the applicant pool, host interviews and so we’re thinking about the transition period between a month and a month and a half.”

The Executive Director position will be advertised both on the Kenai Chamber of Commerce website and the Alaska Job Center Network beginning today.
