The National Weather Service in Anchorage reports a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 9:00 a.m. this morning to 9:00 p.m. this evening for the Western Kenai Peninsula, including Kenai, Soldotna, Cooper Landing, Homer, and Nikiski. Snow and blowing snow is predicted with total accumulation of between 3 and 6 inches with winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
The worst conditions are predicted to be along the Cook Inlet from Nikiski south.
Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility to one half mile or less at times. Isolated pockets of whiteout conditions will be possible between Anchor Point and the Homer Bluffs.
Additionally, snow will move in throughout the day and increase in intensity. Winds will increase out of the northeast with gusts to 35 miles per hour. The worst conditions are likely to be between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Forecasters advise that during this weather event to slow down and use caution when traveling.
