Basketball Weekend Produces Conference Victories & Tournament Wins

A full weekend of high school basketball featured Peninsula Conference games for Kenai, Nikiski and Homer; and tournament games for the SoHi, Ninilchik and Seward.

 

Seward Tournament

The Ninilchik boys hit a buzzer-beating field goal to surpass Valdez 64-63 in the Seward Tournament boys championship game on Saturday.

Landon Colburn hit a three-pointer before the scoreboard hit :00 for the Wolverine victory.  Lukah Kalugin led the Wolverines with 22 points and Colburn added 15 points.  Ninilchik adds the Seward Basketball Tournament to a resume’ which includes a SoHi Al Howard Shootout tournament championship.  The Wolverines are 10-0 on the season; their first season in 2A basketball.

 

In the Seward Invitational girls championship game, Bethel defeated Seward 53-39 in Saturday’s pairing.  Ava Lieb led the Warriors with 14 points; Shelby Sieminski scored 20 points for the Seward girls.

 

Dimond Lady Lynx Shootout

The Soldotna Star girls defeat Service on Saturday to close-out tournament play at the Dimond Lady Lynx Shootout in Anchorage.  Kaitlyn McAnelly lead the Stars with 14 points.

 

Peninsula Conference Basketball Pairings

Nikiski Girls 28 – Grace Girls 57

The Grace Grizzlies girls remain unbeaten in Peninsula Conference play with a 57-28 win over Nikiski.  Sophie Lentfer topped the Grizzlies with 18 points; Kinlee Jefferys led the Bulldogs with 10 points.

Nikiski Boys 33 – Grace Boys 61 

Luke Lentfer’s 21 points pushed the Grizzlie boys past Nikiski 61-33.  Isaiah Daniels topped the Bulldogs with 12 points.

Homer Girls 61 – Kenai Girls 40

The Homer girls steadily pulled-away from the Kardinals for a 61-40 Peninsula Conference win in Homer on Saturday.  Homer nailed nine, three-pointers and were led by Sydney Shelby with 19 points.  Emma Beck topped the Kardinals with 11; Logan Satathite added 10 points.

Homer Boys 61 – Kenai Boys 47

Homer’s Carter Tennison scored 28 points to help the Mariners down the Kardinals 61-47 in Peninsula Conference action on Saturday.  Homer led by ten after three quarters and extended to a 14-point victory.  Jakob Kvasnikoff scored 22 points for Kenai.

The Mariner girls and boys dropped a pair of conference games on Friday to Grace Christian.  The Grace girls held-off Homer 48-40 and the Grace boys defeated the Mariners 55-37.  The Grace girls and boys lead the Peninsula Conference without a loss with a month remaining in the regular season.
