SoHi and Nikiski battled in a pair of non-divisional basketball games on Tuesday at Soldotna High School.
SoHi Boys 66 – Nikiski Boys 63
Sixty-one combined points scored in the 4th quarter by the SoHi boys and Nikiski boys provided for an exciting finish to a 66-63 SoHi victory over Nikiski, as long as you’re not a fan of defense.
Nikiski lead 16-10 after one quarter. The Stars lead 25-20 at the half and 35-33 after three quarters setting the stage for the furious finish. In the fourth quarter, Nikiski trailed by eight at one point and surged back on the strength of three point baskets by Drew Handley and Brady Bostic. Nikiski hit five, three-pointers in the final quarter; SoHi made eleven field goals in the fourth.
Ethan Sewell lead the Stars with 16 points and Jakob Brown added 15 points, all in the second half. For the Bulldogs, Dillon Hansen scored 15 points off the bench and Brady Bostic scored 14.
SoHi Girls 47 – Nikiski 20
The SoHi girls defense held the Bulldog girls to single digits in all four quarters; as SoHi pulled-away for a 49-20 non-divisional victory over Nikiski.
The Stars lead 23-12 at the half and extended to 38-16 after three quarters. Nine players scored for SoHi lead by Ellie Burns with 10 points. Nikiski’s Maggie Grenier topped the Bulldogs with 6 points.
