Homer Winter Carnival Celebration Kicks Off Eventful Weekend

It’s gearing up to be an eventful weekend down in Homer as several events will be taking place, most notably is the 68th Homer Winter Carnival Celebration.

Brad Anderson, Executive Director of the Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center told KSRM:

We have just the whole variety of things celebrating winter down here around here. The only thing that we aren’t able to do this year is the parade that we typically do on Saturday. We just have enough people a little concerned about getting together celebrating right now. It just wasn’t the time to try to get enough people participating for anyone to do that, but we will be doing some events. The Pratt Museum will be open all weekend with some new displays. They have some great trails behind there for people to go out and do some hiking/exploring out there and also see some new displays that they have. An annual thing that is being done at Alice’s Champagne Palace is the annual Cranium Cup. This one is put on by the Rotary Club and sign up for that. It’s $20 individuals, but that’s a fun, fun time. Our Faith Lutheran Church is doing a Carnival Chilly Day Chili To-Go Fundraiser and four different types of chili to enjoy there and take home. Our Mr. Homer contest is happening so that’s a wild event at Down East Saloon.”

Anderson said that the Winter Carnival Parade that was scheduled for Saturday was canceled due to the number of COVID-19 cases, which caused people to reconsider gathering to build the parade entries and walk together in groups.

The Homer Winter Carnival kicks off on Thursday with a basketball tournament at Homer High School.
