The Kenai River Sportfishing Association Board of Directors has announced that Shannon Martin was selected to serve as the Executive Director of KRSA. Martin will be responsible for achieving the organization’s mission as well as managing KRSA’s operations, public relations, and fundraising. This news comes after the KRSA Board began looking for a new Executive Director after Ben Mohr announced his pending resignation on January 1st to pursue other professional opportunities.

Martin has previously served as KRSA’s Office/Events Manager for the last three years. According to a KRSA press release, she has renewed partnerships in the community and has demonstrated dedication to the organization’s mission.

Martin talks to KSRM introduces herself and why she stepped up into the Executive Director position:

So I was born here in Soldotna. I’m a lifelong Alaskan. I moved to Anchorage, grew up, and my husband and I were thinking, we’re going down to the Kenai every other weekend, we might as well move to my hometown. We did that about eight years ago, expanded our family. When the position became available for the Office/Events manager, it was just the perfect fit for me. Now I am at the helm. I am very excited for my new role and tackling the advocacy side of issues and continuing to develop our community partnerships.”

Martin talks about the KRSA:

Yes, if they want to visit KRSA.com, we have all of our information out there. They can click on previous  news articles and learn about some of the projects that we’ve been involved in in the past. KRSA has free lifelong memberships right now. We just want to spread our mission and our message to everyone that we can and get them to be advocates for the river.”
