1A Peninsula Conference Crowns Lumen Champions: CIA Eliminated On Saturday

The Cook Inlet Academy girls and boys both advanced to the 1A Peninsula Conference Basketball Tournament second-place game on Saturday at Lumen Christi with an opportunity to advance to the 1A state basketball tournament.  Unfortunately, both Eagles teams were defeated and eliminated from the tournament.

 

Girls Championship Results

The Lumen Christi Archangel girls defeated Birchwood Academy 28-20 in the 1A Peninsula Conference championship game on Friday, clinching the #1 seed into the upcoming 1A state basketball tournament.  Natalie Grubba lead the Archangels with 11 points.  With the loss, Birchwood moved into the second-place game on Saturday against Cook Inlet Academy.

Birchwood Girls 37 – CIA Girls 22

The Birchwood girls held the Cook Inlet girls to only two free throws in the fourth quarter as Birchwood defeated the Eagles 37-22 for second-place and an automatic berth to the 1A state tournament.  Birchwood led 26-20 after three quarters and outscored CIA 11-2 in the final quarter.  Tatum Rozak scored 10 points for the Eagles.

 

Boys Championship Results

The Lumen Christi Archangel boys downed Cook Inlet 77-35 in the 1A Peninsula Conference boys championship game on Friday, clinching the #1 seed into the upcoming 1A state basketball tournament.  The Lumen boys are the 2021 1A state champions.

Tim Bennett scored 31 points for the Archangels.

Nanwalek Boys 42 – CIA 32

The Nanwalek boys claim the Peninsula Conference runner-up and claim the 32 seed to the 1A state basketball championships with a 42-32 win over the Cook Inlet Academy Eagles.

Nanwalek lead by five, 29-24, after three quarters and pulled-away from the Eagles with a 13-point, fourth quarter.  Tikhom Kvasnikoff topped Nanwalek with 16 points; Abraham Henderson scored 9 to lead the Eagles.
