Ninilchik 78 – Metlakatla 52
The Ninilchik Wolverine boys completed a dominating season with a dominating performance in the ASAA 2A Boys State Championship Game, overpowering Metlakatla in the second half of the 2A boys title game on Saturday at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage.
The Wolverines pulled-away from Metlakatla with a 53-point, second half after the Chiefs held a 27-25 lead early in the second half. Final Score: Ninilchik 78, Metlakatla 52.
Landon Coburn scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half and Lukah Kalugin scored 32 points, including four three-point baskets (without a point in the second quarter).
As it was all season, a stifling defense lead to multiple turnovers and multiple possessions, which lead to multiple runs, which lead to a 26-point victory and a state championship in the 2A division of high school basketball.
Ninilchik closes the basketball season with an undefeated 25-0 overall record.
