Beginning this week on Wednesday, the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport terminal loop road in front of the South Terminal will undergo significant and critical rehabilitation. Upon completion of the project, the terminal loop road, outside of the lower-level baggage claim area, will have new pavement and drainage systems, upgraded curbside pedestrian access complying with FAA/ADA terminal requirements, and new lighting and paint.
During the initial phase of construction, which will conclude on May 25th, all three lower-level traffic lanes nearest to the terminal outside of the baggage claim area will be rerouted to the outer traffic lanes. To guide traffic, ANC will be installing detour signage along the roadway, and flaggers may be present. Temporary signage will also be placed throughout the interior of the terminal instructing arriving passengers to appropriate pick-up areas for regular pickup, commercial transportation, and tour busses. Airport staff also is notifying ANC tenants to provide them with the information and instruction they need to keep all operations uninterrupted and running smoothly.

I want to thank motorists in advance for their patience and understanding when coming to the airport. We will move quickly to get the majority of the terminal loop road back to normal before our busy summer season kicks off Memorial Weekend.”
ANC asks travelers to arrive at the airport two hours prior to their flight’s scheduled departure. Drivers picking up passengers are advised to use the cellphone lot and wait until your passenger is ready at the curb with their luggage. This will help alleviate any issues curbside. Intermittent lane closures will occur from Memorial Day through the summer to complete the terminal loop project.
