Much to the dismay of those still out hunting for the KSRM Easter Egg, it has been found! Scott Johnson and Lyla Strecker returned the winning egg to the KSRM studios on Friday to claim their $2,000 prize.

The winners described the particular clues that tipped them off about the winning location on Centennial Trail: “We located it on one end of Centennial Trail. The entrance to park at was by the (Soldotna) Sports Center.”

This was their very first win, in having participated in the KSRM Easter Egg hunt for several years: “We walked past it, at first, and were about to call it for that search of particular spot and I had been looking under a lot of picnic tables and park benches over the course of the day. I checked the bench before we returned back up the hill on the boardwalk and there was something tucked underneath the support of the bench on the left side. It was a package of modest size. It was wrapped in duct tape and PVC pipe. I wasn’t sure if we found the egg. I was excited, but Lyla said, ‘Let’s not get overly excited, we don’t know what this is. We might have found something illegal, here.’ We investigated it with caution, and sure enough it was the egg! We were super excited.”

The winners offered some tips on how they found the KSRM Easter Egg: “A lot of the sponsor clues were giving us hints like, ‘there’s a bridge’ ‘there’s multiple ends’ ‘the beginning may or may not be the same place you end up.’ We were thinking some kind of through hike with the ability to double back. Centennial was top on our list because we know it’s been a long or, if ever, that it’s been hidden there. We wanted to really scour that trail and we did from one side to the other, eventually coming to the egg and the end of our search on that trail.”

Scott and Lyla provide advice for finding the egg next time: “Definitely go the sponsor locations and get those clues when they come out when they have those unique clues, that’s really a good way to get intel early in the game and then make a plan. Don’t just search everywhere.”

When asked what they are going to do with their $2,000 prize, Scott said: “Well, we both owe quite a bit in taxes this year.”

Congratulations to this year’s winners! Mark your calendars for the 2023 KSRM Easter Egg Hunt.
