The Soldotna City Council enacted an ordinance that would increase estimated revenues and appropriations by $1,750 in the general fund for a donation received from the Soldotna Library Friends.
City Manager Stephanie Queen told council:
“This ordinance seeks to appropriate $1,750 from the Soldotna Library Friends, which, as you know, are very generous in their fundraising and support of our library programs and materials. The packet includes a memo from our library director, Ms. Rachel Nash and it outlines the specific items and ways that she is proposing to use these donated funds.”
The Joyce K. Carver Memorial Soldotna Public Library received the donation, which will be divided up to purchase several items, including:
- $50.00 in memory of Rosie Reeder to be spent on books about Alaska,
- $200.00 to support continued maintenance of the Story Walk®,
- $500.00 to support Summer Reading 2022 special events,
- $500.00 on behalf of Schwab Charitable to purchase books for children and youth which
- support diversity and tolerance,
- $500.00 on behalf of the Pioneers of Alaska to purchase large print books
Nash gave an estimate on how much the Soldotna Library Friends have raised over the years:
“So I don’t have the exact numbers, but ballpark, especially if you’re including the expansion project, it’s probably, gosh, around $40,000 – $50,000, around there.”
The ordinance was enacted unanimously.
