A quick start and a come-from-behind finish for the Kenai Kardinal baseball team equaled an extra-inning 13-11 Kenai victory over SoHi in Southcentral Conference baseball action on Wednesday at the Soldotna Field.
Kenai 13 – SoHi 11 Eight Innings
A Simon Grenier grand slam home run with two outs in the first inning staked Kenai to an early 4-0 lead in a game which saw the Stars rally to take an 11-5 lead through five innings. Eight unanswered runs for Kenai, four in the sixth, two runs in the seventh to tie the game, and two runs in the eighth, gave Kenai a 13-11 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning.
Kenai reliever Gabe Smith held down the Stars offense allowing no runs in the final three innings. SoHi starter Riley Johnson allowed five runs in three innings; all four, first inning runs were unearned with the Kenai grand slam following a two-out error which extended the inning.
At the plate, Kenai’s Grenier collected six RBI on two hits and Jayden Sandahl was 2 for 2 with two walks and two runs. SoHi’s offense was lead by Levi Mickelson’s 3 for 4 with two RBI, Johnson had three RBI and went 3 for 5.
Kenai improves to 2-1 and SoHi moves to 3-1 in the Southcentral Conference baseball standings.
