The 2022 Kenai Peninsula Track & Field Championships, hosted at Soldotna High School on Saturday, featured athletes exclusively from KPBSD schools and featured performances surpassing the best in the state of Alaska.
The Soldotna Stars claimed both overall team titles, SoHi is the lone Division I track program on the peninsula, outscoring the Homer Mariners in the girls and boys team totals. The SoHi boys amassed 225.5 points to the Homer boys 109.2 and the SoHi girls totaled 194 points to the Mariner girls 122 points.
Kenai Borough Track & Field: Boys Results
SoHi
The Soldotna Stars were paced by a three, individual gold medal performance by sprinter Leigh Tacey II with victories in the 100M, 200M, and 400M dash events and also a first-place in the 4X400M relay.
The outstanding performance of the meet belonged to SoHi senior Dylan Dahlgren. Dahlgren set a SoHi school record and posted the best 2022 throw in the boys discus with a distance of 162′ 11″ (breaking the record of Ryan Shelton from 2008). Dahlgren’s throw is the top in the state by over 16′ in an event measured to the closest 1/2″.
Other first place finishes for the SoHi boys included Nathan Johnson’s 800M run finish in 2:02.36, the third-fastest time in the state. The Star boys also won the 4X400M relay and the 4X800M relay.
Kenai
The Kardinal sprints showed well, lead by Jacob Begich with a top Division II performance. Begich placed second in the 200M with the fastest DII time of the season and anchored the Kardinals 4X100M relay. Kenai also won the 4X200M relay.
Homer
The Mariner boys recorded five individual championships lead by Seamus McDonough’s victories in the 1600M and 3200M and a second in the 800M. Aiden Brost won the 110M and 300M hurdles; Caleb Evans won the boys long jump.
Seward
Tommy Cronin excelled in the jumping events with victories in the long jump, triple jump and a second in the high jump.
Nikolaevsk
The Warriors Justin Trial won the high jump at 5’10”.
Kenai Borough Track & Field: Girls Results
SoHi
Depth proved the key for the Soldotna girls as six different girls recorded individual championships.
Individual Champions
Telotha Brade, 100M; Kaytlin McAnelly, 200M; Ellie Burns, 400M; Jordan Ruffner, 3,200M; Ashlee Anderson, discus and Adara Hagelund, high jump.
The SoHi girls also won three relays including the 4X200M relay, 4X400M relay and 4X800M relay.
Homer
Gracie Miotke raced to victories in the 100M and 300M hurdles; posting the best Division II mark in the state in the 300M hurdles. Izzy Fisk won the shot put, Leah Evans won the long jump and the Mariners won the 4X100M relay.
Seward
Robin Cronin posted a DII state best in the girls discus at 33′ 3″. On the track, Hailey Ingalls won the 800M and 1,600M.
