The Peninsula Oilers and Alaska Goldpanners played three exhibition games and the teams played basically even contests.
Thursday, the Alaska Goldpanners scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 3-2 victory over the Oilers in a scheduled, seven inning exhibition game. For the series, Fairbanks and the Oilers tied 3-3; Fairbanks won on a walk-off 6-5; and Fairbanks won 3-2.
Alaska Goldpanners 3 – Peninsula Oilers 2
The Goldpanners held-off Oilers rallies in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings for a 3-2 victory at Growden Park.
The Goldpanners opened the scoring with a two-run, second inning. The Oilers answered with a run in the fifth; however, the tying run was thrown-out at the plate. In the sixth inning, the Oilers scored Jacob Shavers after Shavers reached on an error; then, the Panners took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. In the seventh, the Oilers with runners at first and second are retired with back-to-back strikeouts.
The Oilers follow-up their Fairbanks swing and begin Alaska Baseball League play Saturday, June 11th with a double-header against the Anchorage Bucs at Mulcahy Park. The Oilers home opener is set for Wednesday, June 22nd against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots.
