New Women’s Record & Repeat Men’s Champion In 2022 Mount Marathon Races

The 94th running of the Mount Marathon Race on Monday, July 4, 2022 featured a return to July 4th ceremonies and racing up a grueling 1.5-mile Mount Marathon, and back down to the finish line in downtown Seward, Alaska.

A new race record was posted in the women’s race and a two-time winner crowned in the men’s division.

 

Women’s Marathon Race Results

Allie McLaughlin, from Colorado Springs, Colorado, climbed to the top of Mount Marathon nearly two minutes faster than any other female competitor and finished the downhill expanding her lead for a new Mount Marathon course record in the 2022 Mount Marathon race in Seward on July 4th.

McLaughlin raced up the mountain in 34:17 and flew down the mountain in 12:52 for a total race time of 47:09, setting a new women’s race record.  McLaughlin broke the old record of 47:49 set in 2015 by Emelie Forsberg.

Hannah LaFleur, of Seward, posted the fastest downhill leg of the race with a time of 11:38 to move from sixth to second overall with a total time of 52:35.

Men’s Marathon Race Results

Max King, of Bend, Oregon, won his second Mount Marathon event posting a time of 43:37.  King topped the mountain in 32:18, the fastest of the field, and finished the downhill in 11:19.

Anchorage’s Thomas O’Harra finished second at 44:57.

Junior Marathon Race Results: Girls

Rose Conway ,of Anchorage, posted the fastest downhill time of 8:59 to advance from third to first place overall with a total time of 33:18.  Kenai’s Tania Boonstra and Jayna Boonstra finished second and third after posting the fastest uphill climbs at 23:14 and 23:47.

Junior Marathon Race Results: Boys

Palmer’s Coby Marvin topped the boys junior field in 25:27 and posted the fastest climb time of 17:52.
