The Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection, Kenai/Kodiak Area Office, announced that they rescinded the burn suspension. The Kenai Peninsula burn suspension officially ended on Monday, July 18, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.
The reason given for the burn suspension on the Kenai Peninsula and Kodiak being rescinded is due to the significant widespread precipitation, which has moderated the fire danger. DOF officials add that forecasted rain will continue to add relief to the dry vegetation.
As a result of the lifting of the suspension, small-scale and large-scale debris burning is now permitted, but DOF officials advise to follow burn permit regulations such as having water on site. Additionally, burn only natural materials, have ground cleared to mineral soil around the burn and stay with the fire until it is completely out and cold to the touch.
The weather and fuel conditions are evaluated daily by the Division of Forestry and Fire Protection. The Burn Permit Hotline is (907) 260-4269 and it will be updated with details on wind advisories, burn suspensions, and/or burn closures.
