Mariners Top Kardinals In Mid-Alaska Football Showdown

Senior night for the Homer Mariners turned the spotlight on senior Carter Tennison and a four touchdown effort for the Mariner quarterback in a 38-20 victory over the Kenai Kardinals on Saturday.

 

Homer 38 – Kenai 20

Carter Tennison rushed for four touchdowns to lead the Mariners past the Kardinals 38-20 in Mid-Alaska Conference football.

Homer opened the scoring on an 8-yard touchdown run for Tennison, he also ran in the 2-pt conversion.  Leading 8-0 in the second quarter, Tennison added a second 8-yard touchdown run and second conversion.

Kenai battled back with a pair of second quarter touchdowns by Reagan Graves.  With a successful 2-pt conversion the Kardinals trailed Homer 16-14 at the half.

Second half scoring included a 5-yard touchdown run by Homer’s Jake Tappan, followed by a third touchdown run for Tennison for a 30-14 Mariner advantage.

Kenai connected on a 59-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Bridger Beck to Wade James to close to 30-20 in the fourth quarter.  Homer’s Tennison finished the scoring with a 1-yard run and 2-pt. conversion for a 38-20 Mariners victory.

 

Homer improves to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play with an earlier loss to unbeaten Houston.  The Kardinals move to 2-2 on the regular season and 0-1 in Mid-Alaska Conference play.

 

The Kardinals host Kodiak on Saturday, September 10th at KCHS with a scheduled 2 p.m. game time.
