The AMHS 2022/2023 Winter Schedule is now available for reservations. Changes were made in the winter schedule from what was initially proposed which were made to further fill service gaps, including adding service for Prince William Sound, while the M/V Aurora undergoes its scheduled two-month annual overhaul.
DOT&PF Commissioner Ryan Anderson:
“We heard from our communities, and we’re listening. We adjusted the Winter schedule based on the feedback received and will keep on working with Alaska’s coastal communities to minimize service disruptions.”
Initially, the department intended to bring the M/V Columbia back into service to cover service gaps during overhauls but has decided that the most dependable option will be the continued utilization of the M/V Kennicott and the M/V Matanuska throughout the winter months. The M/V Tazlina will provide additional service during the M/V LeConte’s overhaul, pending crew availability. The M/V Tustumena’s sailing schedule was adjusted to provide several sailings in Prince William Sound. Lastly, service was added to accommodate coastal communities’ special events to the greatest extent practicable. The department will also contract supplemental service if needed to cover service disruptions.
Last week, the Department introduced a new program to improve marine highway service reliability, increase the transparency of AMHS operational information, and to facilitate feedback from Alaskans. The effort saw initial steps of modifications to the winter schedule based on customer feedback and suspension of dynamic pricing until spring 2023.
