Both SoHi and Lathrop have taken care of business in 2022. Now the business at hand is a Division II state football championship.
The Soldotna Stars and the Lathrop Malamutes both recorded undefeated 8-0 regular season records and both controlled play in the semi-final playoff games last week to set up what most considered an inevitable showdown on Saturday at Service High School.
The Stars and Malemutes battle for the 2022 ASAA Division II State Football Championship on Saturday, October 15th at Service High School in the noon championship game.
Lathrop High School possesses the ASAA Division II traveling trophy with the 2021 victory over the Stars.
The traveling trophy has made only one road trip; SoHi held the trophy for the entire life of the award from 2012 until 2019; the Stars winning eight-straight Division II championships and posting an undefeated record in 2020.

The Soldotna Stars have proven the strength and depth of the Stars football program in 2022 with SoHi facing multiple players missing games due to injury and multiple players in the “next man up” role. To match-up against the 9-0 Malemutes, SoHi will need their best athletes on the field on Saturday.
The Stars “pound the rock” full-T offense which generated 49 points per game and SoHi’s stifling defense which allowed only four, first-half touchdowns in nine games will be put to the test by Lathrop’s multiple set, athletic, spread offenses as the Malemutes will field the strongest competition the Stars have faced in the reigning DII state champions.
