The opening game of a three-game series between the Kenai River Brown Bears and the Chippewa Steel in NAHL Midwest Division hockey was dominated by visiting Chippewa 5-1 on the Brown Bears home ice on Thursday night.
Chippewa 5 – Kenai River 1
The Steel scored twice in the first period and added two goals in the second period for a 4-0 lead, holding Kenai River scoreless on 19 shots on goal. In the third period an early goal by Kenai River’s Bryce Monrean proved to be the Brown Bears lone goal on the night. Chippewa added a final goal for the 5-1 victory. The Brown Bears were outshot 30-21 by the Steel.
The series continues with a 7:30 p.m. game on Friday, October 28 and a 7:30 p.m. game on Saturday, October 29 at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.
