Kardinals Close Unbeaten Volleyball Regular Season

Conference volleyball tournaments fill the schedule next week following a full weekend of regular season volleyball that featured the Kenai Kardinals capping an unbeaten head-to-head regular season.

 

Kenai Volleyball

The Kardinals defended home court on Friday with a sweep of the Seward Seahawks 25-8, 25-19 and 25-7.  Senior Cali Holmes recorded 12 kills, Emma Beck added 11 kills and Jorgi Phillips recorded 24 assists.

The Kards completed an unbeaten run through the Southcentral Conference and will be the top seed into the conference tournament, which will be hosted at Kenai Central High School scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, November 3-5 on the Kardinals home court.

 

Nikiski Bulldogs

The Nikiski Bulldogs closed the regular season on the road with SCC games against ACS and Grace Christian.

The Bulldogs downed ACS on Friday 23-25, 25-23, 25-13 and 25-21, dropping game one and rallying for a 3-1 match win.  Ashlynne Playle notched 15 kills and Avery White added seven kills.

On Saturday, Nikiski defeated Grace Christian in four sets 25-19, 25-13, 24-26 and 25-13 to post a 5-5 Southcentral Conference record.  Avery White and Alexa Iyatunguk recorded seven kills each for the Bulldogs.  Nikiski will be a middle seed into the Southcentral Conference tournament next week at KCHS.

 

Soldotna Stars

The Stars split a home, conference weekend with the visiting Kodiak Bears.

On Friday,  SoHi defeated Kodiak 25-21, 25-20, 21-25 and 28-26 in Northern Lights Conference play, lead by Katelyn Morrison’s 19 kills and Nicole Dickinson’s 43 assists.

On Saturday the Bears turned the results around, defeating SoHi 23-25, 25-20, 25-11 and 25-23.  Morrison again topped the Stars with 18 kills.

SoHi travels to Wasilla for the Northern Lights Conference Volleyball Tournament set for Thursday-Saturday, November 3-5 at Wasilla High School.
