Former Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor, David Carey has filed to run for Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor in the special Mayoral Election scheduled for February 14th, 2023.

Carey added his name to a growing list of candidates that includes Senator Peter Micciche, Soldotna City Council member Linda Farnsworth-Hutchings and local entrepreneur Zachary Hamilton.

David Carey previously served as Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor, after winning the election in 2008.

In a statement released on social media, Carey states;

“Today, I did something I have told myself I would never do again. I filed to run for Borough Mayor in the Special Election to be held in 10 weeks on 14 February. The purpose of my Campaign: “I want us to stop telling kids they are of no value unless they go to college! That is a LIE that kills. I know what it is to be at the top! We have the break-up of family and values, we have drugs and sex, we have suicide. Our kids deserve to be valued for the person they are, not the False DREAM! That is why I run for Borough Mayor!”

The Special Mayoral Election is mandated for the election of a Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor to fill the vacancy generated by the resignation of former Borough Mayor Charlie Pierce.

Candidates interested in running for Borough Mayor can currently apply with a deadline of 4:30 p.m. November 30th, 2022.
