The high school wrestling season moves into conference tournament weekend with the Kachemak Conference and Northern Lights Conference wrestling tournaments scheduled for this weekend. Individual champions and qualifiers to the upcoming wrestling state tournaments will be based on bracketed competition.
Kachemak Conference Wrestling Tournament
The Kenai Kardinals and Nikiski Bulldogs, along with Homer, Seward and any other wrestlers from Kenai Peninsula schools in Division II wresting, travel to Anchorage Christian School for the Kachemak Conference Wrestling Tournament scheduled to run Friday and Saturday, December 9-10.
DII State Berths
The Kachemak Conference tournament features two separate divisions with a boys division and a girls division.
In the boys division, the top three wrestlers in each weight class earn automatic berths to the ASAA Division II boys state wrestling tournament, with up to four at-large spots available.
In the girls competition, two automatic state berths are up for grabs in each weight class.
Northern Lights Conference Wrestling Tournament
The Soldotna Stars host the Northern Lights Conference Wrestling Tournament at SoHi on Saturday with a single-day, bracketed tournament featuring Division I programs SoHi, Colony, Wasilla, Palmer and Kodiak.
Wrestling begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and the championship finals are scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday.
In the NLC boys competition, five automatic berths to the ASAA Division I state championships are available with one at-large spot also available. Fourteen weight classes will compete for state berths and individual titles in divisions from 103 lbs. to 285 lbs.
In the NLC girls competition, two state berths are available in 12 possible weight divisions from 100 lbs. to 235 lbs.
