The Soldotna High School wrestlers shined at home with 13 individual champions, seven boys and six girls, at the Northern Lights Conference Wrestling Tournament at Soldotna High School on Saturday.
NLC Boys Division
The Soldotna boys completed the first step to a Division I state championship by qualifying a minimum of 22 wrestlers in 14 weight classes for the ASAA Division I Boys State Wrestling Championships scheduled for December 16-17 at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage. The Stars totaled 456.5 team points; Colony placed second with 376.5 points.
SoHi Individual Champions
Seven SoHi individual champions included undefeated Hunter Richardson (29-0) sweeping the 189 lb. weight class and unbeaten Liam Babitt (16-0) with three pins in the final three rounds dominating the 215 lb. weight class.
Jacob Strausbaugh, at 112, rallied late in the third for a decision and a 112 lb. title. Ezekiel Miller closed the 125 lb. championship match with a pin; Hunter Bras also closed with a pin in the 135 lb. division. Isaac Chavarria, at 152 lbs., recorded a pin in the final to secure the 152 title. Colin Peck earned the 171 lb. championship with a major decision in the final match.
The top-five wrestlers in each weight class (and 0ne at-large state berth) qualify to the ASAA Division I state tournament.

285 lbs.: 2nd Place – Logan Katzenberger of Soldotna; 3rd Place – Kenai Lepule of Soldotna; 4th Place – Kevin Steger of Soldotna
NLC Girls Division
The Soldotna girls on the strength of seven individual champions earned the Northern Lights Conference girls team championship with 184 points and qualify eight wrestlers to the ASAA Girls State Wrestling Championships.
SoHi Individual Champions
Girls NLC champions for the Stars include undefeated Trinity Donovan (26-0) at 145 lbs.; Jessica LeClair won the 107 lb. title with a pin in the final round; Angelina Chavarria topped the 114 lb. class; 
Kaytlin McAnelly pinned her way to the 132 lb. championship. Daisy Hannevold topped the field at 138 lbs. (improving to 26-2) and Alyssa McDonald won the 165 lb. division.

The top-two in each weight class qualify to the ASAA girls state tournament. Kellyn Hansen finished second in the 120 lb. weight-class to qualify to state.
