Contrary to the extreme snowfall experienced throughout a majority of Southcentral Alaska, inadequate snow conditions have activated the closure of the sections of the Glacier and Seward Ranger Districts of the Chugach National Forest to the possession and operation of snowmachines in the designated areas of the Chugach National Forest.
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for resource protection, this order is in effect from December 13th, 2022 through January 13th, 2023, unless rescinded sooner.

Prohibited Acts:
36 C.F.R. § 261.53 – Special Closures
36 C.F.R. § 26I.53(f) – Property
Exceptions:
Pursuant to Title 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e) the following are exempt from this order:
1. Any person with a permit authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of any organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
Penalty:
A violation of these Prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for per individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months or both.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 C.F.R. § Part 261, Subpart A.
