Three first period goals staked the Soldotna Stars to an early lead which held throughout the Railbelt Conference pairing on Thursday night against the Kenai Kardinals at the Kenai Multi-Purpose Facility as SoHi downed Kenai 4-2.

Jace Applehans opened the scoring for the Stars with a goal just 1:33 into the first period, the first goal in a 4-2 win for the Stars over the Kardinals. Boone Theiler scored midway through the first (8:18) and Dawson Lockwood added a goal at 9:34 for a 3-0 SoHi advantage.
The Kardinals first goal opened the second period with Logan Mese scoring just :29 seconds into the period. Late in the second, Applehans scored his second goal and extended the SoHi lead to 4-1. Kenai’s Caden Warren scored the only goal of the third period. Final Score: SoHi 4 – Kenai 2
Shots on goal were basically even with SoHi’s Jackson Purcell recording 23 saves on 25 shots; Kenai’s Seanna Swanson saved 19 of 23 shots.
