The final basketball game of 2022 produced the best basketball action with the Ninilchik Wolverines knocking-off the Soldotna Star boys 81-74 in double-overtime at SoHi on Friday night.
Ninilchik 81 – SoHi 74
The Wolverines and Stars traded leads throughout each of the overtime periods with Ninilchik pulling away in the final minutes of the second overtime for the 81-74 non-divisional victory.
The Wolverines led 34-27 at the half and built a 13-point lead before the Stars rallied to take a 61-58 lead into the final possession by the Wolverines. Jaylin Scott hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime at 61-61.
In the first overtime, a 3-pointer by SoHi’s Jakob Brown with :27 seconds remaining was followed with a pair of Scott free throws and a 69-69 tie after the first OT.
Ninilchik pulled ahead in the second overtime on the strength of back-to-back 3-point baskets by Cole Moore. Final Score: Ninilchik 81 – SoHi 74.
For the game, Ninilchik’s Cole Moore led all scorers with 28 points, Jaylin Scott scored 26 for the Wolverines. SoHi’s Iziah Gilbert scored 26 and Jakob Brown added 21 for the Stars.
