The Alaska Department of Transportation, having dealt with ordering and delivery issues over the past year, has announced the receipt and the continued installation of new cameras for numerous locations within the Alaska highway system.
According to the DOT and Alaska 511, contractors are installing (and repairing) cameras and dealing with issues of improperly operating cameras.
New cameras have been installed at:
- Glenn Hwy @ MP 35.2
- Seward Hwy @ Huffman Rd
- Seward Hwy @ Summit Lake Lodge MP 45.8
Cameras currently not showing images or needing repair include:
- Seward Hwy @ McHugh Creek MP 111.8: This RWIS station is in the process of being moved. The station was removed from the old site and will be built on the new site this upcoming construction season.
- Haines Hwy @ Chilkat River Bridge MP 23.8: camera needs to be replaced – a new bracket needed to be ordered for it to be installed. On order.
- Parks Hwy @ Broad Pass MP 201.4: power no longer available, removing from RWIS/511 websites
- Richardson Hwy @ Birch Lake MP 307.2: RWIS station power out on Dec 14th, needs to be investigated.
- Richardson Hwy @ Trims DOT MS MP 218.2: Communication connectivity issue, ice is suspect, to be investigated
- Glenn Hwy @ MP 176.6: RWIS station power out on Dec 13th, needs to be investigated.
- Richardson Hwy @ Stuart Creek MP 45.7: Power issue. Is supposed to be converted to grid power and removed from the generator. Power company was supposed to perform when ground thawed this spring.
- Seward Hwy @ Turnagain Pass MP 69.9: This RWIS station has been out of power for a long time but is still expected to be fixed by the contractor within the next few months.
- Alaska Hwy @ Dot Lake MP 355.2: One camera view. Contractors found a camera on-hand that provides a single view but will work in the meantime until it can be replaced.
- Parks Hwy @ Antler Creek MP 244: Camera not working and needs to be looked at to determine replacement.
- Seward Hwy @ Divide MP 12: North view working, South view is not
- Pasagshak Rd Kodiak @ MP 3.8: power issue, whole RWIS site down
- Richardson Hwy @ Keystone Canyon MP 12.3: camera needs to be replaced
- Airport Way @ Eielson St: RWIS station was shut down and possibly removed for construction.
- Seward Hwy @ MP 113.5: Mini RWIS station that has a power issue and needs to be visited by M&O
- Atigun Pass – Mini RWIS station, water got into the communications system and will be repaired soon.
