Invitational basketball tournaments continued play in Nome and Fairbanks for the Kenai Kardinals and Soldotna Stars on Thursday.

 

Kenai @ Nome Invitational Basketball Tournament

The Kenai girls and boys basketball team test themselves against Western Alaska basketball programs at the Nome Invitational with games against 3A powers Kotzebue and Nome and 2A Unalakleet, which qualified both girls and boys to the 2022 2A state championships.

Kenai Girls 50 – Unalakleet 33

Kenai Boys 61 – Unalakleet 51

Jakob Kvasnikoff led the Kenai boys with 25 points in the 61-51 victory over the Wolfpack.

Thursday Game Results

Kenai Girls 45 – Kotzebue 10

Kenai’s Emma Beck dominated play with a 33-point effort in a 45-10 Kenai victory over the Huskies.

Kenai Boys 60 – Kotzebue 53

Jakob Kvasnikoff led the Kenai boys with 25 points in the 60-53 victory over the Huskies.

 

 

Soldotna @ Mt. McKinley Bank Basketball Tournament

The Stars girls and boys face both 4A and 3A competition at the 2023 Mt. McKinley Bank Basketball Tournament hosted at Lathrop High School in Fairbanks.

The SoHi girls opened against 4A Lathrop High School and the SoHi boys played 4A Ketchikan in the tournaments round-robin format.  Anchorage 3A power Grace Christian and Fairbanks 3A state qualifier Monroe fill out the tournament bracket.

Friday Game Results

Monroe Girls  41 – SoHi Girls 31

Josie Sheridan lead the Stars with 14 points

Monroe Boys 57 – SoHi Boys 36

Jakob Brown scored 15 points for the Stars.

Thursday Game Results

SoHi Girls 36 – Lathrop 39

The Star girls fell 39-36 to the Malemutes.  Katelyn Morrison lead SoHi with 11 points.

SoHi Boys 36 – Ketchikan 55

The Ketchikan Kings downed SoHi 55-36 in the tournament’s first round.  Zac Buckbee topped the Stars scoring with 8 points.
