The Soldotna City Council adopted a resolution adding a temporary, part-time ‘Records Project Assistant’ position and amending the FY23 authorized staffing table to reflect the change.
There are several high priority record management projects to move the records management program forward into a maintenance phase. It is estimated that a temporary part-time employee, with the appropriate skills and knowledge, would be able to complete these projects working 12-18 hours per week over a six-month period.
Johni Blankenship, City Clerk,
“records have been put on the back burner. We also have implemented new systems and the old records did not get fully put into the new system. We also have not accomplished a training program for users of the new system. There’s a need to complete the file-index transition and to digitally archive older vital records.”
Blankenship on city’s unique opportunity for hiring an experienced former employee.
“We have a really unique opportunity here and that is to bring Brekke (Brekke Hewitt) back as a subject-matter expert; which she has already agreed to. To come back for a period of potential up-to six months, starting with this fiscal year for around 12-18 hours a week to bring our records to a place where administrative assistant and Justin and I can keep them in a perfect condition moving forward.”
The cost for the remainder of fiscal year 2023 is estimated to be $13,000 and fiscal year 2024 costs will be proposed in the fiscal year 2024 biennial operating budget if deemed necessary.
