SoHi & ACS Sweep Second Round Games At SoHi Tip-Off Tournament

The 2023 Revolution Sport & Spine Therapy Al Howard Shootout Basketball Tournament featured second round pairings matching the Soldotna Stars against the Kenai Kardinals and ACS battling Juneau.

SoHi Girls 42 – Kenai Girls 32

Powered by a 15-point, fourth quarter, the SoHi girls rallied for a 42-32 victory over Kenai.  The Kardinals led 20-14 at the half and 29-27 into the final quarter.  SoHi outscored Kenai 15-3 in the fourth quarter, holding the Kards without a field goal.  Emma Beck led Kenai with 23 points; Tanner Inman topped the SoHi girls with 16 points.

SoHi Boys 49 – Kenai 48

A late rally, including back-to-back three-point baskets and 4 for 4 freethrow shooting, pushed the SoHi boys past Kenai 49-48.

Trailing late in the fourth quarter, the Stars closed to within a point on three-straight 3’s; then trailing 48-47, Zac Buckbee made two freethrows with 1.1 seconds remaining for the 49-48 SoHi victory.  Buckbee finished with 17 points for the Stars; Jakob Kvasnikoff topped the Kards with 15 points.
