Stars drop NLC Game To Colony: Ninilchik Sweeps Boys Tournament Bracket

The Soldotna Stars battled Northern Lights Conference powerhouse Colony on Saturday with a strong showing by both SoHi varsity teams.

 

SoHi Girls 37 – Colony Girls 57

The SoHi girls played even with the Colony Knights through the first quarter at 11-11 and trailed only by four 24-28 at the half.  Colony rolled in the second half, outscoring the Stars 29-16 for the 57-37 victory.  Hallie Clark led the Knights with 20 points; Josie Sheridan topped the Stars with 19 points.

The Colony girls improve to 6-2 while SoHi drops to 2-6 in the NLC.

 

SoHi Boys 54 – Colony Boys 69

After falling by 30 points to the Knights on Friday; the SoHi boys battled Colony Saturday in a much closer contest.

Colony owned a 36-24 halftime advantage against SoHi and extended to a 19-point lead after three quarters.  A 22-point fourth quarter for the SoHi boys closed the gap to a 69-54 final score.  Andrew Pieh led the Stars with 19 points.  SoHi stands at 1-7 in the NLC: Colony is undefeated in conference play at 9-0.

 

Ninilchik Invitational Basketball Tournament

The Ninilchik boys and the Tri-Valley girls claimed the Ninilchik Invitational Basketball Tournament titles @ Ninilchik School.

Ninilchik Boys 100 – Bristol Bay 48  Boys Championship

The Wolverine boys defeated Bristol Bay 100-48 in Saturday’s championship game, completing a 4-0 tournament run.  Tournament MVP Colvin Moore scored 16 points and Peyton Edens topped the scoring with 24 points.

Boys All-Tournament Team: Colvin Moore , Peyton Edens, Jaylin Scott of Ninilchik; Josh Renshaw and Michael Renshaw of Tri-Valley, Jaykob Thorne,  John Itliong and Junior Itilong of Cordova;  Chad Anderson of Bristol Bay; and Russell Waska of Nenana.

Tri-Valley 55 – Cordova 41  Girls Championship

The Tri-Valley girls downed Cordova 55-41 on Saturday to finish tournament play at 4-0.  Ninilchik’s Riley Tucker was named tournament MVP for the girls bracket.
