The 2023 ASAA/First National Bank Alaska Nordic Ski State Championships, featuring three days of cross country ski competition on the trails at Kincaid Park in Anchorage, continued on Friday with the Mass Start Freestyle races.
All schools and skiers compete together in the single, classification ASAA state championships. Division II schools (Kenai, Homer, Seward and Valdez) are separated out only for individual awards; no team scores are recorded for DII.

Olivia Soderstrom of Service High Scool posted the fastest Girls 7.5K Freestyle completing the course in 19:45.4. Soldotna’s Tania Boonstra finished 15th overall at 21: 26.6 and SoHi’s Ariana Cannava finished 19th at 21:42.7. Kenai’s Emily Moss placed 22nd in 21:45.5.
In the Boys 10K Classic competition, Hatcher Menkens of West Anchorage posted the fastest time completing the course in 24:50.7. Jack Laker of Kenai topped all peninsula skiers placing 22nd in 26:37.8. Homer’s Garrett Briscoe placed 26th in a time of 27:05.6 and SoHi’s Andrew Cox placed 40th in 28:34.4.
