Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy has announced that Kelly J. Lawson has been appointed to the Kenai Superior Court. Ms. Lawson was selected from a list of individuals nominated by the Alaska Judicial Council and forwarded on to the Governor.
Four nominees to the Kenai Superior Court were selected from a field of nine candidates by the Alaska Judicial Council in a public hearing held January 24th, 2023 at the Kenai Courthouse.
Of the four nominees, Lawson was selected via a tie-breaker by Alaska Supreme Court Chief Justice Daniel E. Winfree.
The four selections were submitted to Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy, who through the authority of the Governor’s office, selected Lawson to fill a Kenai Superior Court vacancy left with the pending retirement of current Judge Jennifer K. Wells.
Ms. Lawson has been an Alaska resident for 46 years and has practiced law for 19.5 years. She graduated from the University of Montana School of Law in 2002 and is currently a Victim Rights’ Attorney in Anchorage.
