Ninilchik Boys Dominate Unalakleet In 2A State Basketball Opener

The Ninilchik boys basketball team, the reigning 2A boys basketball champions, sent notice that the 2023 basketball title will go through the Wolverines; as the Wolverines overpowered Unalakleet 97-56 in the opening round of the 2023 ASAA 2A Boys State Basketball Championships.

 

Nnilchik 97 – Unalakleet 56

The Wolverines shooting proved deadly as Ninilchik shot 61% from the field and 48% from three-point range on its way to the 97-56 victory over the Wolfpack.

Colvin Moore topped the Wolverines with 25 points and 5 of 7 for three-point baskets.  Jaylin Scott dominated in the key with 20 points and Kade McCorison added 18 points and Rowan Mahoney opened with three, 3pt. baskets in the first quarter for the Wolverines.

Ninilchik controlled the basketball recording 40 rebounds and turning the ball over only four times in the second half.  Ninilchik led 53-28 at the half and the game turned to running clock for the final six minutes.

 

The Wolverines advance to the 7:45 p.m. winner’s-bracket, semi-final on Friday, March 17th to face Petersburg (Petersburg defeated Hooper Bay 58-55).
